A thirteen year old Foursquare single cask from Valinch & Mallet, unsweetened and cask strength, sweet and buttery with caramel, orange and oak over a brown sugar, nutty finish at a firm 59.4%.
Description
Valinch & Mallet selected this single cask of Foursquare, a thirteen year old Barbados rum from the 2005 vintage out of Richard Seale's St Philip distillery. It is a single blended rum, pot and column married in the island style, bottled at cask strength and without added sugar in line with Foursquare's strict no-additives approach.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows caramel, light oak and coconut on the nose and a notably sweet, buttery palate carrying orange and wood, the natural richness of long tropical ageing rather than any dosage. The finish brings brown sugar, oak, a nutty edge and gentle spice. At 59.4% it is firm but generous, and while one taster notes the usual Foursquare coconut sits quieter here, it remains unmistakably Bajan, a rounded full-proof cask for drinkers who like their rum dry yet richly flavoured.
