A 26 year Clarendon from Valinch and Mallet, mature and layered with red and tropical fruit, caramel, coffee and polished oak deepening into leather and dried apricot, a long-aged single cask at 56.9% with the funk softened into elegance.
Description
Valinch and Mallet bottled this single cask Clarendon, distilled in 1995 and aged 26 years, from the celebrated mid-90s output of Jamaica's workhorse distillery. Clarendon's old pot still marks reward long ageing, and this one trades raw funk for depth and balance.
Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it shows mango, caramel, vanilla and oak on the nose, then turns woody and structured with leather, spice and ripe fruit, finishing long on leather, mocha and dried apricot. Bottled at 56.9% and unsweetened, the cask strength is well judged and the 1995 vintage delivers the intense sweet-sour fruit that vintage is known for. This is a mature, complex old Clarendon for experienced drinkers, the dark licorice and polished oak balancing the fruit, a slow pour that opens and intensifies with time in the glass.
