Valduero Blanco is a single-varietal Albillo from D.O. Ribera del Duero, made by a family winery founded in 1984. Aged on its lees, it shows green apple, pear and citrus with white flowers and a fresh, textured finish.
Description
Valduero Blanco is a white wine made from the native Albillo grape in D.O. Ribera del Duero, produced by Bodegas Valduero in Gumiel de Mercado in Burgos. Valduero was one of the first wineries founded in the appellation, a family project begun in 1984 by Gregorio Garcia Alvarez and now run by his daughters, known for single-variety wines. Albillo Mayor is the region's traditional white grape, better known as a minor component of the local reds, and it gives a soft, aromatic white with orchard fruit and moderate acidity. Ribera del Duero sits high on the northern Meseta, where a wide diurnal range between hot days and cold nights preserves acidity and aroma in the fruit, and the poor limestone and sand soils drain freely and keep yields low. The wine is aged on its lees, which rounds the texture and adds a savoury, bread-like depth while keeping the fruit fresh. The colour is pale straw with green tints. The nose shows green apple, pear and citrus over white flowers. The palate is fresh and textured, with orchard and stone fruit, a subtle creaminess from the lees and a clean finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish and light poultry.
