Valdubón makes this Roble in Ribera del Duero from Tempranillo grown beside the Riaza River. Four months in oak give a fresh, fruit-forward red of strawberry and blackberry with coconut, vanilla and a hint of liquorice.
Description
Valdubón works in Ribera del Duero, alongside the Riaza River, making identifiable wines with pure fruit and a straightforward style. This Roble is built on Tempranillo, the region's signature grape, grown on the chalky clay and limestone soils of the high Duero plateau. The vineyards sit at altitude under a continental climate of hot days and cold nights, and that wide diurnal swing slows ripening, holds the acidity and gives the thick-skinned fruit its deep colour and firm structure. The free-draining soils limit vigour and concentrate the berries. This is a young, fruit-forward style, aged just four months in oak barrels, a short stay where the wood adds light vanilla, spice and a coconut note while leaving the fresh fruit at the centre. The 2024 vintage gives a bright, accessible red for early drinking. The colour is deep ruby with a violet rim. The nose shows strawberry and fresh blackberry over coconut, vanilla and a hint of liquorice. The palate is medium bodied and juicy, with ripe, supple tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 16 degrees. It suits grilled and roasted meats.
