A 23 year Port Mourant marque at a towering 62.6 percent, this unsweetened single cask delivers earthy peat, herbal medicine, pear and green apple over heavy oak, a full power Demerara that rewards focused attention.
Description
The Danish bottler 1423 released this under its detail obsessed S.B.S Single Barrel Selection line, a single cask of Port Mourant marque from the Uitvlugt estate, drawn at a hefty 62.6 percent and left unsweetened in the transparent style the label is known for. Port Mourant is the heaviest voice in Guyana, distilled on the double wooden greenheart pot still that no modern equipment can replace.
After 23 years the molasses spirit carries earthy, almost peat like depth alongside herbal medicine notes, pear and green apple, with hefty oak and a burnt sugar edge from the port cask. The strength is serious and the wood runs toward the assertive end, so a generous rest in the glass and a little water help it open. This is a sipper for drinkers already at home with dry, high proof Demerara and the medicinal, herbal extreme of the Port Mourant style.
