1423 selected this 1990 for its detail-obsessed S.B.S range, where the rums are bottled dry, non-chill-filtered and unsweetened. It carries the Port Mourant marque, the heaviest and most pungent profile in Guyana, here run at the Uitvlugt site before the heritage stills were consolidated at Diamond.
Thirty years in cask with a Port maturation give it a dry, dark and woody character: leather, tobacco and liquorice on the nose, prune and roasted notes across the palate, then a long finish of roasted wood, herbs and malt. At 53.1% it needs time in the glass to open, but the reward is a deep, serious Port Mourant of real pedigree. This is a contemplative sipper, not a mixer, and it asks for patience.
