Uitvlugt El Dorado Special Cask Finish Ruby Port Casks 2006

Uitvlugt El Dorado Special Cask Finish Ruby Port Casks 2006 is a distillery bottling from DDL's limited cask finish range, built on pot still spirit carrying the Uitvlugt marque, a closed-estate name now recreated at Diamond and known for its refined, fruity character. As with the rest of this series it is declared unsweetened and bottled at full strength, distinct from the dosed standard El Dorado line.

The rum was finished in ruby port casks, which fold a generous fruitiness into the spirit. The nose is woody and floral with clear port and raisin notes, while the palate brings vanilla, dried fruit and chocolate over the wood. The finish keeps that wood, chocolate and vanilla going with more raisin. The cask is well integrated and nicely fruity, though it needs to rest for the flavours to settle and the strength to calm. At 55.4% with no added sugar, this is a fruit-forward but honest Demerara finish.
