Description
Quinta de Couselo is a small, long-established family winery in the O Rosal valley, one of the sub-zones of D.O. Rías Baixas in Atlantic Galicia. This is a single-variety Albariño, the region's signature grape, grown in a cool, wet, maritime climate on granite-based soils that lend salinity and drive. The wine sees a mix of vessels: part is raised on its lees in stainless steel over about four months, with a portion aged in wood. The lees ageing releases mannoproteins that broaden the texture, while the limited wood adds a light savoury frame without covering the fruit, so the wine keeps its Atlantic freshness alongside more weight than a plain tank Albariño. The colour is pale yellow with green reflections. The nose shows white peach, apricot and lemon, with white flowers and a hint of almond. The palate is dry and fresh, the lees giving a rounded middle before a long, saline, mineral finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
