Turntable Smokin’ Riff TuSp (Turntable Spirits)

Turntable Smokin' Riff TuSp (Turntable Spirits) is a blended Scotch from Turntable Spirits. It marries malt and grain whiskies, with Islay malt such as Caol Ila for smoke. Long fermentations build the fruity, citrus notes that sit beneath the smoke.

Caol Ila's elegant smoke gives the blend its coastal, citrus edge. A second fill bourbon cask kept the oak in the background. Cool, damp warehousing slows the loss of the angel's share over the years. Refill oak lets the maritime peat and lemon of the spirit lead the way. Diageo's Special Releases have featured both peated and unpeated Caol Ila. Its peated character is built on malt smoked to a medium level of phenols. The oily texture comes from the spirit cut, the cask adding depth around it. Olive oil and lemon sit at the heart of the Caol Ila character. The peat here is medium rather than heavy, so fruit and smoke share the glass.

Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. Lemon, olive oil and a soft ash run through the middle. The finish is clean, smoky and maritime. A characterful smoky blended Scotch.
