Description
This official Tullibardine single malt, an 18 year old Highland malt from 1993, drawn from cask 10016 and bottled at 51.1%. A release of 232 bottles. Tullibardine was established in 1949 at Blackford in Perthshire, and it distils, matures and bottles on one site. Picard brought a range of wine cask finishes, named for the size of the cask: the 225 Sauternes, 228 Burgundy and 500 Sherry.
It was worked through the distillery's pot stills, for the soft, honeyed Highland make Tullibardine is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the soft character to the fore. Around the mid teens the malt gains a fuller honey and a riper fruit. Soft Ochil Hills water gives a clean, malty make. Tullibardine was founded in 1949 by the architect William Delme-Evans, the first new distillery in post war Scotland. King James IV is said to have bought ale at a Blackford brewery in 1488, on the site the distillery now occupies.
At a full 51.1% it is bold yet honeyed. A soft, fruity vanilla meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run honey, toffee and a soft spice. It closes soft, honeyed and warm. This is a soft, honeyed Highland single malt.
