Description
This official Tullibardine single malt, a 52 year old release from 1962, drawn from cask 63 and bottled at 40.1%. The outturn was 250 bottles. Tullibardine, first built in 1949 in the southern Highlands near Gleneagles, is known for its wine cask finishes. Mothballed in 1994, the distillery was revived in 2003 and bought by the French wine house Picard in 2011.
The spirit was run through the distillery's compact copper stills, to build a honeyed, malty character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Decades leave it deep and gentle, waxy honey and dried fruit with great age. Soft Ochil Hills water gives a clean, malty make. The Murray and Custodian's Collections gather its older and rarer bottlings. Blackford's spring water has drawn brewers and distillers to the village for centuries. Tullibardine was founded in 1949 by the architect William Delme-Evans, the first new distillery in post war Scotland.
Bottled at a cask strength 40.1%, it is rich. Vanilla, toffee and orchard fruit meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. A honeyed, lightly spiced finish lingers. This is the soft Highland malt of Blackford.
