Description
An independent Tullibardine, drawn and bottled by The Caskhound, aged 9 year old from 2015, drawn from cask 900147 and bottled at 59%. The outturn was 308 bottles. Tullibardine, founded in 1949 by William Delme-Evans in Blackford, on the edge of the Highlands, is known for its wine cask finishes. Delme-Evans went on to design the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries.
It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the Danny Burn, for a soft, vanilla scented spirit. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the honeyed malt. At this age the spirit is fresh and honeyed, the malt and soft fruit bright. Years in oak round the spirit, the honey and soft fruit deepening with age. Delme-Evans, a noted gravity flow designer, also drew up the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries. The malt also feeds the Highland Queen blend, another brand in the Picard stable.
Undiluted at 59%, it is layered. The Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle, and a gentle vanilla from the wood runs under a mellow, honeyed character. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. The finish is rounded, honeyed and gentle. This is a gentle, honeyed Highland single malt.
