Description
Single malt Tullibardine, selected and bottled by Dràm Mòr, an 8 year old release, drawn from cask 143 and bottled at 57.4%. Only 233 bottles were released. Tullibardine was built in 1949 at the foot of the Ochil Hills; its honeyed malt has a quiet following. The name is Gaelic for lookout hill, after a nearby hill once used to watch for approaching strangers.
Distilled in copper stills on Ochil Hills spring water, giving the light, fruity spirit at its heart. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the soft make. At a youthful age the fruit is gentle and the malt soft. The cool Highland climate gives a slow, even maturation over the years. The Murray and Custodian's Collections gather its older and rarer bottlings. Blackford's spring water has drawn brewers and distillers to the village for centuries. Tullibardine was founded in 1949 by the architect William Delme-Evans, the first new distillery in post war Scotland.
At its natural 57.4% it is concentrated. The Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with pear, honey and a malty note. The texture is soft and round, the fruit lifted by honey. Toffee, honey and a soft oak see out the finish. This is Tullibardine's fruity Highland style.
