From Dràm Mòr comes this Tullibardine matured to 6 year old, drawn from cask 190000228 and bottled at 54.9%. The outturn was 336 bottles. Tullibardine, founded in 1949 by William Delme-Evans at Blackford in Perthshire, is known for its wine cask finishes. Picard brought a range of wine cask finishes, named for the size of the cask: the 225 Sauternes, 228 Burgundy and 500 Sherry.
It was worked through the distillery's pot stills, for the soft, honeyed Highland make Tullibardine is known for. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Younger here, it keeps a light, honeyed freshness over vanilla. The soft, fruity spirit takes a wine finish particularly well, in the Picard house style. The distillery sits just off the A9 near Gleneagles, one of Scotland's more accessible. Under French wine ownership the distillery has leaned into its cask finishes.
At a hearty 54.9% it carries real weight. Raisin and a nutty sherry depth build, and a soft, fruity vanilla meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run honey, toffee and a soft spice. A honeyed, lightly spiced finish lingers. This is a soft, honeyed Highland single malt.
