Description
Acla da Fans selected this Tullibardine, a 32 year old from 1989 and bottled at 49.4%. A release of 48 bottles. Set in Perthshire, off the A9, Tullibardine has distilled since 1949. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle all on the one site.
The spirit was made in copper stills for a soft, fruity make, for a fruity, mellow make. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. At thirty years and more it is rich and mellow, candied fruit, honey and old oak in a deep old malt. Bourbon wood frames the make with vanilla, the wine casks adding fruit. Part of the old estate was turned into a retail outlet during the lean years. The distillery sits just off the A9 near Gleneagles, one of Scotland's more accessible. Under French wine ownership the distillery has leaned into its cask finishes. The Murray and Custodian's Collections gather its older and rarer bottlings.
At cask strength 49.4% it is full bodied. Vanilla and a light toffee from the barrel, with honey, vanilla and a soft toffee. The mouthfeel is soft, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. A warming, honeyed finish lingers. This is a mellow, fruity Highland single malt.
