From Douglas Laing comes this Tullibardine, a 24 year old release from 1993, drawn from cask DL 12026 and bottled at 51.5%. Only 262 bottles were released. Tullibardine was founded in 1949 in Blackford, on the edge of the Highlands; it was the first distillery built in Scotland after the war. Picard brought a range of wine cask finishes, named for the size of the cask: the 225 Sauternes, 228 Burgundy and 500 Sherry.

It was drawn off copper pot stills fed by the Danny Burn, for a soft, vanilla scented spirit. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the soft character to the fore. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and full while staying soft. Years in oak round the spirit, the honey and soft fruit deepening with age. Under French wine ownership the distillery has leaned into its cask finishes. The Murray and Custodian's Collections gather its older and rarer bottlings.

Undiluted at 51.5%, it is layered. A gentle vanilla from the wood runs under apple, honey and a gentle spice. It is fruity and soft, the fruit and oak well matched. Toffee, honey and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a honeyed Highland single malt from Perthshire.
