Description
Cadenhead's selected this Tullibardine matured to 24 year old from 1993 and bottled at 45.5%. 264 bottles in all. Tullibardine, first built in 1949 in Perthshire, off the A9, is known for its wine cask finishes. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle all on the one site.
The spirit was made in copper stills for a soft, fruity make, for a fruity, mellow make. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Beyond twenty years the malt grows deep and honeyed, dried fruit and oak spice over a soft toffee. Sherry wood suits the soft make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. The name comes from the Gaelic for lookout hill, after a hill once used to watch for strangers. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle entirely on the one site. Delme-Evans, a noted gravity flow designer, also drew up the Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries.
Reduced to 45.5%, it is soft. Vanilla and a light toffee from the barrel runs under apple, honey and a gentle spice. It is fruity and soft, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is rounded, honeyed and gentle. This is a honeyed Highland single malt from Perthshire.
