Description
The Caskhound selected this Tullibardine, a 10 year old from 2014, drawn from cask 659743 and bottled at 56.2%. Just 281 bottles were filled. Founded in 1949 in the southern Highlands near Gleneagles, Tullibardine is a soft, honeyed Highland malt. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle all on the one site.
The spirit was run through the distillery's compact copper stills, to build a honeyed, malty character. A Burgundy or red wine cask lent red fruit and a soft spice. Still young, the malt is honeyed and fruity with a soft spice. Refill oak lets the honeyed Tullibardine character lead, vanilla over toffee. Picard is a Burgundy wine family, and their casks come from vineyards across France. The name comes from the Gaelic for lookout hill, after a hill once used to watch for strangers. It is one of few distilleries to distil, mature and bottle entirely on the one site.
At its natural 56.2% it is concentrated. The Marsala lends raisin and brown sugar, and oats, honey and a touch of ginger sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. It is gentle and honeyed, the soft spirit shining through. It finishes soft, honeyed and clean. This is a wine finished Highland malt from Blackford.
