A twelve-year Martinique agricole from Trois Rivieres, blending 2006, 2014 and 2016 cane-juice rums off a creole column in ex-bourbon oak at 42%, unusually round and pastry-like with honeyed cane, pear, chocolate and soft spice over light oak.
Description
This Triple Millesime marries three vintages of Trois Rivieres, 2006, 2014 and 2016, into a twelve-year Martinique agricole that shows the gentler, more rounded face of the house. Distilled on a creole column from fresh sugar-cane juice and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it is bottled unsweetened at 42%.
What sets it apart is its softness for a cane-juice rum. The nose is woody with vanilla, caramel and sugarcane; the palate turns honeyed and almost pastry-like, pear and chocolate folded around the cane with soft spice; the finish is round, lightly oily and gently sweet over restrained oak. Tasters reach for tarte tatin, honey and Williams pear in describing it, and several rate it among the more memorable Martinique vieux they have tried. The strength is well integrated, making this an inviting, mellow sipper that softens agricole's usual grassy snap without losing its character.
