An 11 year old 2001 Trois Rivieres single cask from Martinique, a cask-strength cane-juice agricole pairing clove, anise and cumin spice with fruity apple and pepper over a grassy, floral finish at 49.3%.
Description
Trois Rivieres traces its estate to 1660 and has made Martinique agricole for over a century, now distilled at the La Mauny site, working from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice. This 2001 single cask carries 11 years of age and is bottled at cask strength of 49.3% under the Martinique AOC, a beautifully matured expression drawn from one barrel.
Distilled on a column still that keeps the green cane congeners, it balances spice, fruit and a persistent agricole core. The nose is spice-led with clove, vanilla, anise and cumin, the palate turns fruity and spicy with black pepper and apple, and the finish returns to the cane with vegetal, grassy, floral notes. Some tasters find it gentler on the palate than its captivating aroma promises, the single cask favouring elegance over power, but it stays dry and expressive throughout. A refined, spice-forward Martinique vieux best sipped neat to follow its evolution.
