A Martinique vintage agricole from Trois Rivieres, 1999 and finished in cognac casks at 42%, rich and mature with apricot, dried and tropical fruit over toasted oak, a cognac sweetness and a lychee-and-apple close.
Description
Trois Rivieres traces its estate to 1660 and is now distilled at the La Mauny site, carrying more than a century of agricole heritage. This Millesime 1999 is built on rhum agricole, fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice from a column still, then matured and finished in cognac casks before bottling at 42%.
The cognac influence shows clearly, lending a rounded, fruity richness to the dry agricole base. Aromas of apricot, toasted oak and a roasted edge give way to a palate of tropical and dried fruit laced with cognac sweetness and wood, while the finish lingers on lychee and apple. Tropical ageing has carried the spirit to a mature, harmonious place where the grassy cane character has mellowed into orchard and stone fruit. A polished, fruit-led older Martinique agricole that drinks beautifully neat.
