A 1979 vintage Martinique agricole from Trois Rivieres, distilled from cane juice with a spice-forward profile of black pepper, oak, allspice and coffee, bottled at an elegant 45% with the depth of long tropical ageing.
Description
Trois Rivieres Millesime 1979 is an old vintage from the historic Trois Rivieres estate in Martinique, distilled from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses. A dated agricole carrying this year is a rare survivor, an unsweetened cane-juice rum from a producer with more than a century of rum-making behind it, and the kind of bottling reserved for slow appreciation.
Decades of maturation give it a markedly dry, spice-driven character rather than sweet richness. The nose leads with black pepper, oak and allspice over a faintly synthetic vintage lift, the palate carries oak, coffee and peppery spice, and the finish stays oaky and warm with allspice and nutmeg. At 45% it is poised and well integrated, a beautifully aged agricole where wood and spice dominate over fruit, best enjoyed neat and unhurried to read the years in the glass.
