Trois Frères Distillery Takamaka Overproof Rum

Trois Freres Distillery Takamaka Overproof Rum is an unaged high-strength white rum from the Seychelles, distilled on pot and column stills from molasses and bottled at a forceful 69%. It belongs to the bright, energetic end of the white rum world, an affordable overproof blanc built more for mixing and tweaking than for slow contemplation.

Despite the strength it stays surprisingly elegant, with citrus, lemon peel and floral notes over a grassy, sugarcane freshness, and hints of lychee, licorice and aniseed. The palate is fruity, peppery and faintly herbal, the finish minty and unmistakably alcoholic. A little water tames the heat and coaxes out more fruit, but its natural home is a Ti Punch or a punchy cocktail where its bright, sharp character can shine. For the price it is hard to fault as a working white rum.
