A sweet Seychelles coconut rum from Takamaka at 25 percent, all creamy coconut, vanilla and sugar, a flavoured spirit closer to a liqueur and built for Pina Coladas rather than neat sipping.
Description
Takamaka is made by the Trois Freres distillery on Mahe in the Seychelles, and this Coco bottling is its coconut flavoured release, distilled on a combination of pot and column stills before being sweetened and flavoured. At 25 percent it sits well below standard rum strength, which places it firmly in coconut liqueur territory.
The rum base is gentle and the coconut flavouring dominates, giving a nose of coconut, vanilla, sugar and a nutty edge, then a sweet, syrupy palate of coconut and vanilla that carries through a honeyed finish. This is unapologetically a sweet mixer rather than a dry sipper, a fuller and more rum led take on the familiar coconut style. It shines in Pina Coladas and easy summer long drinks, where its creamy sweetness does exactly what it is meant to.
