Trois Frères Distillery Takamaka Bay Grankaz

Grankaz is a fuller bodied release from Takamaka, made by the Trois Freres distillery on Mahe in the Seychelles. It blends pot and column still rum from both molasses and fresh cane juice, with a Foursquare component folded in, and is matured in ex bourbon before bottling at 45.1 percent, a smooth yet characterful island rum with a floral signature.

The mixed feedstock and stills give it both tropical fruit and a grassy lift, with a nose of vanilla, banana, citrus and pineapple moving into a palate of bourbon notes, burnt sugar, pineapple and spice, then a warm finish of citrus, vanilla and gentle spice. Toasted oak frames a balanced sweetness without heaviness. The result is an easygoing, lightly oaked rum with a distinct Seychelles floral twist, good for relaxed sipping and equally happy in a mixed drink.
