A cask strength Seychelles rum from Takamaka, blending molasses and cane juice spirit through pot and column stills, oak and warm baking spice over vanilla with a peppery, nutty finish, the Grankaz expression bottled bold at 51.6%.
Description
Grankaz is the higher strength expression from Takamaka, made at the Trois Freres distillery on the Seychelles, this Batch 3 from 2024 bottled at cask strength, 51.6%. It is an island distillery working a hybrid base, both molasses and fresh sugarcane juice, run through a combination of pot and column stills, which gives it more weight and aromatic reach than a standard column rum.
The extra proof carries a wood forward, spice led profile, oak and sweet baking spice on the nose alongside vanilla, then a palate that stays oaky and peppery with a sweet thread running through it. The finish is spicy and nutty with vanilla holding on. No sweetening is confirmed, and at this strength the rum leans on cask and distillate rather than dosage for its richness. It makes a solid case for the Indian Ocean as rum country, with the cane juice portion adding a grassy lift to the heavier molasses base.
