Trimbach has made Riesling in Alsace since 1626. This old vine bottling is fermented and raised in steel, never oak, in the house’s bone dry style, with lime, green apple, white peach and a steely, mineral finish.
Description
Trimbach Riesling Selection Vieilles Vignes is a dry Alsace Riesling from a house founded in 1626 at Ribeauville and run by thirteen generations of the same family. It comes from old vines, whose deeper roots and lower yields concentrate the fruit and give the wine added depth. Alsace sits in the rain shadow of the Vosges mountains, one of the driest wine regions in France, and that sunny yet cool setting lets Riesling ripen slowly while keeping its high natural acidity. In keeping with the house style, the wine is fermented dry and raised in stainless steel rather than the large oak foudres used for some Alsace whites, a choice that keeps it taut, precise and mineral, letting the grape and site speak without any oak. Expect lime and green apple with white peach and white flowers, a faint waxy note and, with time, the petrol hint typical of aged Riesling. The palate is dry, racy and steely, with a saline, stony finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white glass. It suits fish, shellfish and pork.
