Description
Trimbach makes this Pinot Noir Reserve in Alsace, a family winery in Ribeauville dating to 1626 and now in its thirteenth generation. Alsace lies in the rain shadow of the Vosges mountains, a dry, sunny climate that ripens Pinot Noir cleanly while the region's varied soils keep the fruit fresh and precise. This is a lighter-framed, elegant style of the grape, in the house manner of structured but balanced wines. Rather than oak or foudre ageing, the wine rests some months in bottle at the winery before release, which softens it and lets the fruit settle. The colour is bright, light ruby. The nose shows red cherry, raspberry and strawberry with a floral note and a touch of earth. The palate is light to medium bodied, with pure red fruit, fine soft tannin and fresh acidity, finishing clean and savoury. Serve cool at 14 to 16 degrees. It pairs with roast duck and chicken, and suits salmon, mushroom dishes and soft cheeses.
