Bodegas Tridente makes this Tempranillo from very old vines in Zamora, Castilla y León, aged 15 months in French oak. The old-vine fruit and warm climate give a deep, ripe red of black fruit, cocoa and spice, with round tannins and a long finish.
Description
Tridente Tempranillo comes from Bodegas Tridente, part of Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares, in the VT Castilla y León. The grapes are grown on very old vineyards in the province of Zamora, where deep-rooted old vines on poor soils give small yields of concentrated, intensely coloured fruit. The continental climate brings hot days and cold nights, ripening the Tempranillo fully and lifting the alcohol while the cold nights preserve aroma. The wine is aged 15 months in French oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange through the staves rounds out the tannins and folds in cocoa, vanilla and woodspice. The style aims to show that power and elegance can sit together. The colour is deep and dark, the nose layering ripe black fruit, plum and apple jam with cocoa, dark chocolate and spice. The palate is full and concentrated, the tannins ripe and rounded, the finish long and savoury with a liquorice edge. This is a wine to drink with food and it will keep. Serve at 17 degrees and decant ahead. It suits roast and grilled red meat, game and aged cheese.
