Description
Triay is a Galician producer in D.O. Monterrei, an inland appellation on the Portuguese border, and this is a varietal Godello. Godello is Galicia's fuller bodied white grape, and Monterrei's warmer, more continental climate compared with the coastal Rías ripens it towards riper stone and orchard fruit while the region's altitude and cool nights keep the acidity fresh. The wine is aged three months in stainless steel, a choice that preserves the primary fruit and the grape's natural texture without any oak influence. Godello carries a little more weight and a broader mouthfeel than Albariño, which comes through here as a rounder, gently textured palate. The colour is pale lemon gold. The nose is clean and fruity, with white peach, pear and melon over a light floral note. The palate is medium bodied and dry, the ripe fruit balanced by a fresh citrus line and a faintly saline finish. This is Godello in an approachable, fruit forward style. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits white fish, poultry and lighter shellfish dishes.
