A near-unaged Canary Islands cane-juice rum from Ron Aldea, selected for the Tres Hombres sailing-cargo project and bottled soft at 40.6%, with light honey and caramel up front giving way to a quiet, woody, gently spiced finish.
Description
Tres Hombres Ron Aldea Ed. 49 Bio Caña Pura 2022 is a cane-juice rum distilled by Ron Aldea on La Palma in the Canary Islands and selected by Tres Hombres, the engineless sailing vessel that ships its rum across the Atlantic under wind power alone. Made from fresh-pressed organic sugar-cane juice and rested just under a year in ex-bourbon wood, it sits at the lightest, youngest end of the agricole-style spectrum.
The nose offers caramel, honey and a little dried fruit with a spirity lift. The palate is gentle to the point of restraint, with soft honey, faint cane and light fruit, while the finish brings mild oak, allspice and a floral touch. This is an easygoing pour rather than a bold one, kept soft at 40.6%, where the brief ageing has rounded the spirit more than it has filled it out. A relaxed sipper for those drawn as much to the romance of the voyage as to the glass.
