A Canary Islands cane-juice rum from Ron Aldea selected by Tres Hombres, agricole-style and gentle, with a yeasty, apple and creme brulee nose, a mild caramel and creamy palate and a fruity, allspice finish at an easy 42%.
Description
Ron Aldea on La Palma is one of the few producers making rum from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice in the Canary Islands, an agricole-style tradition outside the French islands, and this Ed. 060 La Palma Pura Cana 2023 was selected by sail-cargo project Tres Hombres, which ships its rum by traditional sailing vessel.
The profile is soft and mild rather than sharply vegetal: a yeasty nose with apple and a creme brulee note, a palate of caramel, creamy texture and gentle wood, and a fruity finish touched with allspice. At 42% it is easy and approachable, a calmer, rounder take on cane-juice rum than the high-proof island blancs. A distinctive bottle for its origin and its sail-transported story, honest about being mild and accessible.
