A 17 year old Dominican rum from sail-cargo bottler Tres Hombres, aged in ex-bourbon and warmly spiced, with allspice, cinnamon and clove running over a base of dried fruit, caramel and vanilla at a slightly elevated 43.3%.
Description
Tres Hombres Republica Dominicana, Edition No. 58, is a Dominican ron bottled by the sail-cargo project of the same name, transported by traditional sailing vessel. Carrying a stated 17 years and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it is a molasses-based, column-distilled rum in the soft Dominican mould.
What stands out is its warm, spice-forward character. The nose layers wood, allspice, caramel and dried fruit, the palate continues with dried fruit, wood, allspice and vanilla, and the finish is generously spiced with allspice, cinnamon, clove and oak. At 43.3% it sits a touch above standard strength, giving it a little extra presence on the palate. The result is fuller and more spice-led than the soft, sweet Dominican rums it shares a shelf with. A spice-driven aged Dominican rum with a distinctive sail-cargo backstory, well suited to slow after-dinner sipping.
