A five-year Poisson agricole from Marie-Galante, sail-shipped by Tres Hombres, fresh cane juice gone green and mineral with citrus, vegetal and floral notes over a dry, tannic, woody finish at 46%.
Description
This edition comes from Poisson, the Marie-Galante distillery behind Pere Labat, bottled by Tres Hombres, the sail-cargo project that ships its rum across the Atlantic by tall ship. It is a five-year agricole made from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice, carrying the Guadeloupe IGP rather than the Martinique AOC.
Five years in ex-bourbon oak has tempered the cane without smothering it, leaving a green, fresh profile with citrus and vegetal notes on the nose, then citrus, spice and a floral, vegetal palate. The finish dries out into tannins, minerals and wood. Bottled at 46% and unsweetened, it stays firmly on the dry, savoury side of aged agricole, a lightly matured Marie-Galante rum with a story in the sail that brought it over and a profile that rewards drinkers who like their cane spirit green and brisk.
