Description
This is an overproof Dominican ron, a Captain's Choice release from the Tres Hombres sail-cargo project drawing on stock from the noted Dominican blender Oliver & Oliver. Molasses-based and column-distilled, it is bottled at a hefty 61.3% cask strength, a marked contrast to the soft, sweet rums the country is known for.
The strength brings concentration and grip. The nose carries dried fruit, wood, toasted notes and allspice, the palate stays dried-fruit-led with wood, allspice and a peppery bite, and the finish adds chocolate to the spiced, woody core.
