A Martinique agricole from La Favorite, bottled by the sail trade venture Tres Hombres, fresh cane juice with classic agricole and cinnamon aromas turning earthy and woody, a young, divisive vieux carried under sail at 43%.
Description
La Favorite is a family run Martinique distillery making rum the AOC way from fresh pressed sugar cane juice with no added sugar. This edition was bottled by Tres Hombres, the venture that ships its rum across the Atlantic by sailing vessel, giving the bottle a story beyond the liquid, here a young aged La Favorite cane juice rum.
The nose is classically agricole with barrel, cinnamon and a vegetal edge, while the palate divides opinion, showing a diluted, musty character with sap and tobacco, the finish turning to allspice, wood, dark chocolate and more vegetal notes. Reactions run from disappointment to genuine pleasure at its gentle sweetness, a bottle that lands differently for different drinkers. At 43% and unsweetened, it is a young, earthy agricole whose appeal rests as much on its sail carried provenance as on the glass, best approached with open expectations and perhaps better suited to a Ti Punch than to solo sipping.
