Description
Trenel is a Burgundy house, and this Pouilly-Fuisse comes from Chardonnay vines aged between forty-five and sixty years, planted on the stony limestone marl soils below the famous rocks of Solutre and Vergisson in the southern Maconnais. The old vines give lower yields and more concentrated fruit, while the limestone drives the wine's bright acidity and chalky minerality. Fermentation takes place partly in stainless steel and partly in new and old barrels, and the wine ages on its fine lees. The lees contact releases mannoproteins that add texture and roundness, and the portion of barrel handling brings gentle oxygen exchange and a light toasted note without dominating the fruit. In the glass it is luminous and pale gold, with lemon, white peach, green apple and a delicate floral lift of jasmine and acacia over a stony minerality. The palate is fresh and precise, with citrus and orchard fruit, a fine leesy weight and a long mineral finish. Serve at around 11 degrees in a white-wine glass.

Additional information
Serve with grilled sole or roast chicken, where the fresh acidity and stone fruit balance the dish. The chalky minerality is a classic match for oysters and other shellfish. It also works with soft creamy cheeses and mushroom dishes.
