Description
Trediberri makes this Barolo in La Morra, at the western edge of the Barolo zone in Piedmont, from Nebbiolo grown on the classic calcareous marl soils of the Langhe hills. La Morra sits on the softer Tortonian soils of the zone, which tend to give Barolo more perfume and a slightly finer frame than the sterner eastern communes. Wide day-to-night temperature swings hold acidity and build the aromatics through a long ripening season. The 2021 spent twenty months in large oak barrels, a slow maturation that lets air resolve the firm tannin of Nebbiolo while the neutral wood stays in the background. The colour is a classic garnet. The nose is fragrant, with red cherry, rose, tar and a hint of liquorice. The palate is full and structured, with firm tannin, bright acidity and a long savoury finish. This is a well-made Barolo in a lightly modern register, drinking well young but with the frame to age for many years. Serve at 18 degrees and decant an hour ahead. It suits braised beef, game, truffle dishes and aged hard cheese.
