Trediberri is a small family winery in the village of Berri near La Morra, in the Barolo zone of Piedmont, run by Nicola Oberto with his father Federico and their friend Vladimiro. Barbera d'Alba comes from the Alba side of the Langhe, where the grape ripens well on calcareous marl soils while holding on to the naturally high acidity that defines it. This wine spent six months on its lees in concrete tanks, a neutral vessel that keeps the fruit fresh, while the lees contact adds a little roundness and texture without any oak flavour. The colour is a deep, vivid purple. The nose shows ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum with a lift of violet. The palate is juicy and full, with dark fruit, low tannin and the bright, mouth-watering acidity that makes Barbera such a good food wine. The finish is clean and savoury. This is an honest, well-made everyday Piedmont red. Serve at 16 degrees. It goes well with tomato pasta, pizza, salami and roast pork.
