An 11 year single barrel from Belize’s Travellers, bottled by 1423 S.B.S at a punchy 64.7%, dry and spicy with vanilla, pepper, roasted wood and a subtle smokiness, a powerful cask strength sipper for water and patience.
Description
Travellers S.B.S 2006 pairs the Belizean distillery Travellers with the Danish bottler 1423 and its detail obsessed Single Barrel Selection. It is a single cask of molasses rum from the 2006 vintage, eleven years old, matured in ex bourbon oak and bottled at cask strength, 64.7%, non chill filtered and natural in the S.B.S tradition.
This pushes the dry, spicy Latin style to full power. The nose carries vanilla, pepper, wood and nutmeg, the palate is intense with vanilla, roast, pepper and mocha, and the finish brings wood, spice, smoke and creme brulee. At nearly sixty five percent it needs a splash of water, which integrates the alcohol and coaxes out dried fruit, though too much can flatten the nose. The balance is impressive for the strength, and it rewards drinkers who enjoy dry, high proof rum in the mould of other Travellers and Foursquare single casks.
