A 17-year Belize single cask from Rum Artesanal, the RA Rum 2006 bottled at 60.8%, dry and woody with coconut, milk chocolate, citrus and a herbal juniper twist over firm oak tannins, a rewarding full-proof pour.
Description
RA Rum 2006 is a Heinz Eggert bottling under the Rum Artesanal label, a Travellers Belize rum, column-distilled, aged seventeen and a half years and bottled at cask strength, 60.8%, from a single cask. Rum Artesanal works in the unsweetened, full-proof tradition, and this dry, wood-forward Belize fits that mould.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, the nose shows coconut, vanilla, citrus and coffee, while the palate turns woody and spiced, with roast and coconut. The finish brings firm oak tannins, with honey and milk chocolate underneath. The character is dry and woody, with the coconut and milk chocolate typical of Belize joined by a citrus or bergamot lift and an unusual juniper-like herbal twist. At over 60% it carries real intensity but stays composed, with solid value for the age. It suits drinkers who enjoy dry, woody column rum and a coconut-driven Belize profile, and who do not mind a herbal edge.
