A dessert-leaning Belize from Planteray, the One-Time 2008 bottled at 48.3%, full of milk chocolate, banana-split fruit and vanilla over gentle oak spice, a sweet, easygoing sipper double-aged and lightly dosed by Maison Ferrand.
Description
Travellers Planteray One-Time 2008 is a Maison Ferrand release of Belize rum, column-distilled, aged fifteen years and bottled at 48.3%. As a Maison Ferrand bottling it follows the house approach of double ageing and added dosage, so this leans sweet and rounded rather than dry, in keeping with the brand's accessible style.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, the nose shows vanilla, spice, cherry and cocoa, while the palate turns candied and fruity, with caramel and chocolate. The finish carries dried fruit, wood, candied fruit and vanilla. The overall effect is dessert-like, milk chocolate and banana-split sweetness with just enough oak spice to keep it interesting, and a strength that adds a touch more body than an entry-level pour. It works well as an easy, sweet sipper or a relaxed after-dinner dram for drinkers building toward bigger rums.
