A gentle seven-year Belize blend of coconut, caramel, vanilla and light oak, column-distilled at an easy 40%, gentle and casual and built more for ice and mixers than for searching neat appraisal.
Description
Belizean Blue is a Travellers blend from Belize, column-distilled and aged seven years in ex-bourbon wood, bottled at a soft, approachable 40%. It sits in the gentle, accessible camp, an easygoing rum aimed at relaxed sipping over ice and casual mixing rather than intense, contemplative drinking. The light distillate keeps the focus on soft sweetness and wood.
The nose shows woody, faintly vegetal and caramelised notes; the palate gives toffee, light oak, a nutty touch and soft spice, with a finish that turns sweet, spiced and a little dry. Drinkers find it pleasant but quite thin and short, leaning on classic coconut, caramel and a little tropical fruit without much that stands out. It improves and rounds out a few weeks after opening, but it remains a casual, soft sipper or mixer best enjoyed without high expectations. Anyone who already favours richer Belize bottlings may find it too light, while newcomers to gentle rums will get on with it.
