Traktor-Öl Kräuterlikör is a herbal liqueur from Germany, popular with drinkers who favour strong spirits and marked by its distinctive name and dark, intense character. At 52% ABV it sits among the more potent herbal liqueurs, built from selected herbs and spicy botanicals in the traditional bittersweet style. The humorous name plays on the liqueur's dark colour and strong effect, which makes it a talking point on a back bar.

The nose is intensely spicy with strong herbs, fine spice and a light bitter edge, the palate strong and aromatic with spicy herbs and bitter botanicals over a slight background sweetness, and the finish long and intense with warming spicy herbs. A mint, anise, wormwood and gentian base anchors the bittersweet profile. On a back bar its function is bitterness, herb lift and strength, which suits a chilled shot, a bitter measure in a stirred herbal cocktail, or a long pour with cola or tonic in the manner of other herbal digestifs. It pairs with hearty meat dishes, barbecue and savoury snacks. Serve it well chilled or as a shot.
