Description
Tr3smano is a Tempranillo from D.O. Ribera del Duero made by Lagar Tr3smano, a project run by José Ramón Ruiz-Gómez, Fernando Remírez de Ganuza and Pedro Aibar along the region's golden mile. The name plays on the old Spanish expression for things that are hard to reach, and the wine sets innovation against tradition. The fruit comes from old vineyards averaging 50 years of age. Ribera del Duero's high plateau brings hot days and sharply cold nights, and that wide diurnal range lets the grapes ripen slowly while holding their acidity, which gives the wine both depth and freshness. The old vines crop little, concentrating colour and flavour. The wine ages 18 months in French and American oak, a long élevage during which steady oxygen exchange through the staves builds structure, polishes the tannin and adds vanilla, cocoa and spice. The colour is deep and dark. The nose is ripe and layered, with black plum, dark berries, tobacco and oak spice. The palate is full and firmly structured, with ripe tannin and a long savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant well ahead. Good with grilled and roasted red meat.
