Torresella Pinot Grigio 2024

Torresella farms beside the Venetian Lagoon in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the north-east of Italy, and this is its Pinot Grigio from the delle Venezie appellation. The vines grow on the alluvial plain near the lagoon, where sandy, silty soils and the cooling influence of the water give a fresh, light style of Pinot Grigio rather than a heavy one. The estate works its plots sustainably, treating the land as something to give back to. The wine is made in a clean, unoaked style, fermented cool in stainless steel to protect the delicate aromatics and bottled young, so it keeps its brightness and its easy, dry character. It pours pale yellow with a faint green tint. The nose is fresh pear, green apple and delicate white flowers, and the palate is light and dry, with lemon, white peach and a soft almond note on a crisp, clean finish. This is Pinot Grigio as an everyday dry white, made for freshness above weight. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees in a white glass.
