Torres makes this vegan Viña Esmeralda Rosé from 100% Grenache in D.O. Catalunya. Aged briefly on its lees and pale pink in colour, it shows fresh strawberry, raspberry and a subtle floral lift over crisp, dry acidity.
Description
Viña Esmeralda Rosé is made by Torres, the long established family firm based in the Penedés that exports across more than 140 countries. The wine is a single varietal Grenache from D.O. Catalunya, drawing on fruit grown across the region's varied sites. After harvest the grapes are fermented in stainless steel under controlled temperature, between 14 and 17 degrees, over 15 to 20 days, a slow cool fermentation that preserves the delicate aromatics and keeps the colour pale. The wine is then held briefly on its fine lees, which adds a subtle roundness and texture without any oak character, while the autolytic contact softens the mid-palate. The wine is suitable for vegans. It pours a vibrant pale pink. The nose is radiant and fresh, with red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry lifted by a subtle floral note and a touch of white peach. The palate is dry and crisp, the lees ageing lending a little weight before a clean citrus-edged finish. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and partners shellfish, white fish, salads and lighter poultry.
