Description
Torres makes this Verdejo in the D.O. Rueda, from vineyards in Villafranca del Duero on the high northern plateau of the Duero, in Castilla y León. Rueda sits at altitude, and those high, open vineyards see hot days followed by cold nights, a wide diurnal swing that slows ripening and locks in the fresh acidity and aromatic lift that mark good Verdejo. The soils are stony and free draining, which keeps yields in check and adds a mineral edge to the fruit. The wine is aged briefly on its lees for two months, a short contact that adds a little texture and rounds the palate while keeping the wine fresh and primary. Verdejo has a natural herbal, fennel like character alongside its citrus fruit, and this is made in a clean, mineral style that shows both. The 2025 pours pale straw with greenish glints. The nose is fresh and citrus led, with lemon, green apple and pear over citrus peel and white flowers. The palate is crisp and dry, with green apple fruit, a light lees roundness, a saline edge and a clean, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
