Bodegas Torremorón makes this Ribera del Duero red from old Tinto Fino vines, some up to 60 years, at around 800 metres. Four months in French and American oak give a fresh, fruit forward wine with black fruit, vanilla and a roasted edge.
Description
Torremorón is a grower cooperative founded in 1957 in Pedrosa del Duero, in the Burgos heart of Ribera del Duero, where vine growing dates back to the Middle Ages. This Tinto Roble is made from Tinto Fino, the local Tempranillo, drawn from old vineyards between 30 and 60 years of age planted at around 800 metres, mostly on the north bank of the Duero. The high, continental site gives cold nights that lock in acidity and deep colour, while the low yields of older vines concentrate the fruit. After fermentation the wine spends four months in French and American oak barrels, a short roble ageing that lends a frame of vanilla and toast and a gentle roasted note without subduing the primary fruit. The colour is deep cherry. The nose is direct and intense, with ripe black fruit, vanilla and a roasted, nutty hint from the oak. The palate is medium to full bodied, juicy and fresh, with ripe tannin and good length for the price. Serve at 16 degrees with grilled pork, roast beef or a mushroom dish.
