Bodegas Torremorón makes this Ribera del Duero Crianza from Tempranillo grown at 800 metres on the northern bank of the Duero. Aged 16 months in French and American oak, it shows raspberry, cherry and a vanilla, spice-led oak character.
Description
Torremorón Crianza is a single-variety Tempranillo from Bodegas Torremorón in the Ribera del Duero. The vineyards sit at 800 metres above sea level on the northern bank of the river Duero, sheltered by the Cuesta Manvirgo, which acts as a natural barrier. At this altitude the wide gap between hot days and cold nights slows ripening and holds acidity, building the colour, tannin and freshness that define Ribera reds. Fermentation runs ten days in stainless steel tanks to capture clean fruit, followed by malolactic fermentation, which converts sharp malic acid into softer lactic acid and rounds the texture. The wine then ages 16 months in French and American oak, the Crianza standard, where the two woods add fine tannin and spice from the French and vanilla and coconut from the American, while slow oxygen exchange settles the structure. The colour is deep cherry red. The nose shows raspberry and cherry over vanilla and sweet spice. The palate is full and structured, the tannins firm but ripe, the oak woven into dark fruit on a long finish. Serve at 17C and decant ahead. Pairs with roast lamb and grilled beef.
